Does really drugs help with that? If so it will be cured permanently. right?
Do I need to go to a psychiatrist or what?

Hi there. I've been diagnosed for a very long while with ADD inattentive. I have been on drugs, and still am. They work for me, but no - it won't be cured permanently. There's no such thing as a "cure" for ADD. And you might need to futz around with medications till you find one that works for you.

As for finding a doctor, yeah. A psychiatrist would be a good place to start. You want to watch out though - lots of doctors receive funding for stuff from various medical companies so if they try to force some unpopular medication and are totally advocating it and no others you probably want a second opinion. I'm mentioning this because I had this happen with two previous psychiatrists.

Hope that helps.

I've known this for a long time and didn't need a scientific study to confirm it for me. I was so sure of it. that I've been asking dr's for years if they have noticed a connection between marijuana smokers and ADHD. Even when you can tell they'd prefer to not answer the question, they all confirm the connection is there. Every time. I get a kick out of seeing the look on their face when I ask. I'm glad to see research is being done and information is finally being made to the public.

I have had ADD all of my life. My mother suspected it when I was in the 1st grade and I couldn't pay attention during "carpet time". I would wander around the room (literally), or drift into thought, and my teachers would have to stop their lesson to bring me back to reality. I wasn't offically diagnosed until Grade Eight, and was prescribed medication, though in the long run, the meds didn't really do anything for me, and I have not taken any meds since for it. I am now nearly 21, and I deal with it every day, but because I know I have it and know about it, I can effectively deal with it, despite frequent lapses of drifting into "my own little world" as it were.

So, in short, there is no "cure" for it, and while meds can help, the best way of dealing with it, for me, was just knowing about it, and being able to go about life accordingly. But something that I've found important, is to not let it control you. You have ADD, ADD does not have you.

Hope this has helped you.

You will probably have some symptoms all your life but the good news is that ADD is manageable. I have had ADD all my life and have managed with caffeine and a few mental strategies that keep me focused. I have started a blog to discuss research issues and coping strategies. Do not despair!!
