Buspar dosing

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Aug 16, 2002 3:01 pm

Dr.,

Since Buspar needs 2-3 daily doses and has a delayed onset, how does one know whether to prescribe it for 2 or 3 doses a day? With benzos it is easy because of the rapid onset you can tell when it wears off, but with the delayed onset of Buspar, how can you tell which is needed? Is it started 3X then dropped to 2X as a trial once effectiveness is determined, or another approach?

Also is Buspar considered an adjunctive or agumenting agent when combined with SSRIs for anxiety? Is the improvement assumed to be due to the independent action of Buspar (like adding a benzo) or to boost the effects of the initial drug? Thanks as always.

I really can't go into one individuals treatment on a drug by drug basis. I am sorry, but that is why you have a physician and a therapist.
