I believe I have Gad I have even started to worry uncontrollably about it. I want to go see my doctor and see if she can help. Do I need to see a therapist first or can my regular doctor diagnose me and prescribe a medication for me.

It depends upon the doctor. Some internists feel quite comfortable diagnosing and managing psychiatric diagnoses. Others refer out almost immediately. Asking your doctor is certainly a reasonable first step.
