Getting Confused

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Apr 18, 2002 12:03 pm

Dr.,

Treatment for my Panic Disorder with daily anxiety is getting very confusing. First my therapist tells me yesterday he wants to introduce this odd-sounding EMDR therapy in addition to CBT to help reduce anxiety associated with 9/11 which he thinks may be useful in reducing my overall anxiety now today my GP tells me he is unimpressed with having a really good week followed by a down week, he is looking for gradual, persistent improvement. However, as I mentioned before, this is my normal course for the disorder, and as you had said, episodic patterns are normal.

Therefore, what should I be looking for by way of progress? In certain days or a given week, I can appear to be in almost full remission. If this is followed by a week where I am symptomatic, but not as severely as maybe in the past, is this how I measure progress? I find it hard to believe that my GP is looking for my to continue those great days/weeks to determine progress, because they are probably not so much the drug as my usual pattern.

I am trying to follow everyone's instructions here to get better as soon as I can, but the treatment is getting as complex as the disorder. Thanks as always.

Too many cooks may spoil the broth. You need to take the Celexa for four to eight weeks in order to assess its effects. EMDR is sometimes helpful and doesn't usually make things worse. Try and go about your business and distract yourself with life.
