New treatments on the horizon?

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Sep 16, 2002 1:55 pm

Dr.,

It seems like the development of new treatments for anxiety has stalled. The last new treatment appears to be Buspar, close to 20 years ago now and seems to leave much room for improvement. All the other treatments are really anti-depressants with new indications for use in anxiety but with the host of side effects that come with them. The only truly new treatments I am aware of on the horizon are pregabalin (which seems to look promising in trials so far) and pagaclone (which looks far less promising now that Pfizer is returning it after it failed to re-produce efficacy seen in earlier trials). That leaves pregabalin as potentially the first new true anxiolytic drug in almost 20 years.

Are there any other new treatments on the horizon, in the next year or so?

Thanks as always.
