physical addiction to Xanax

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Aug 29, 2002 1:27 pm

I know Xanax is addictive, but I had a strange experience that makes me wonder just how fast someone can become addicted. I am regularly on 150 sustained release Wellbutrin, which has been great in relieving depression Periodically for my anxiety I've been given Xanax. After not having had any tranquilizers for several months, on Monday of last week (10 days ago) I took a .5 pill; on T, W, & Th, 1.5 each day; on Fri. 2.0, Sat 1.0, Sun, back to .5. Then I stopped. I couldn't sleep on Sun, Mon, or Tues nights-- NOT normal for me. On Wed (yesterday) I still felt funny kind of withdrawal feelings (little heat flashes, funny taste in mouth). I took a .5 Wed night and one this morning so I feel "relaxed" again. Can just one week of Xanax cause withdrawal symptoms? (By the way, the symptoms weren't bad, just sometimes irritating, like when I couldn't sleep.)

One week to get mild physical dependence would be quick but not unheard of. If there is another reason that you have anxiety that is worse in the last week or two, that would be another possibility.
