Physical sign of chronic anxietyI have been bothered by unexplainable chronic anxiety since 1997.One of the most bothersome physical symptoms that has persisted is urinary frequency,or at least the sensation of incomplete bladder emptying.I have spent in excess of $5000 on many many urological tests/procedures-all SUPPOSEDLY normal. This particular symptom is causing CONSTANT anxiety and rumination over what I still believe to be a physical cause. Most everything I have read on the subject of anxiety/physical symptoms touches on urinary frequency as being an autonomic response from anxiety. Please tell me how anxiety can "produce" urine shortly after voiding. This situation is extremely fatiguing and if a certain mental state can be the SOLE cause of this,I will seek psych. attention. Please explain the the physical process that can produce the symptom I have described. Thanks!!!!!
Re: Physical sign of chronic anxietyAnxiety can cause increased epinephrine levels which can increase the production of urine. More importantly, you can get the sensation of having urine more frequently. Finally, emptying the bladder frequently might diminish its ability to hold more fluid comfortably. Perhaps you should ask the urologychannel.com for a more complete explanation.
I have frequently seen people have pretty good results with the TCA antidepressants which may cause urinary retention as a side effect. I have heard of people using SSRIs and/or benzodiazepines with some good result, but I have not personally treated enought patients this was to advise. Re: Re: Physical sign of chronic anxietyCan epinephrine levels be determined by blood or urine samples?I currently take 1-2 mg Klonopin daily, sometimes every other day as needed.I have been on this regimen for around 4 years, simply because of the 100% rumination over the urinary sensation to void frequently(no other stressor). Is 4 years too long to be on Klonopin? It does take away a good bit of anxiety for me,but this cycle will not end until I get proof(on film through imaging study)that I have zero obstruction,BPH,etc..Any help would be be of great value to me.Thanks!!!
