Your point is fair and understood. I'll ask a more general question though. If medication is supposed to gradually improve you by acting within the brain in some fashion, why does regular "backsliding" to a degree occur during the course of recovery. I can understand this process with CBT, but I would expect medication to provide a more consistent and persistent improvement rather than "two steps forward, one step back". It would seem that whatever gains are achieved through the medication should be sustained and then increased, as they are supposed to be a result of changes in the brain.

Why questions are almost impossible to answer. It could have to do with the psychological feeling of getting better causing a "honeymoon" which may be affected by negative life circumstance. But "why" questions are years ahead of where we are now.
