sever panic disorder

Post a new topicby Karman on Thu Oct 25, 2007 2:16 pm

My mother was diagnosed with severe panic disorder by a Psychiatrist in Houston and place on ativan to help control this. I recently moved her to my own town which meant transferring her from a nursing home in Bryan TX to one in Lubbock. Yesterday, a NP discontinued her ativan. I have read on the internet that there are severe withdrawals from this medication and I question this medication being discontinued by a NP when it was her Psychiatrist that prescribed it for her and no medical records have yet been requested from her previous MD. I would really like some input as to how I need to handle this issue.

Well a nurse practitioner is not a doctor...If Mom gets over anxious Im sure the nurses at the nursing home will get an order for Mom to make her more comfortable.Believe me,the nurses want their patients calm....
