SSRI doses and OCD versus othersDr.,
Why does OCD require higher doses of SSRIs than other disorders? I always hear about "flat dose-response curves" for depression and other disorders treated by these drugs. However, with OCD it seems that there is a positive curve instead (at least to a point). What is different about this particular anxiety disorder that requires these dosages. You had said once before that severity does not necessarily correlate with dosage, so I know that it is not likely to be that. If all other disorders respond within a general dose range, and the benefits generally don't increase once you exceed it why would OCD further respond? My understanding is that benefits don't increase because beyond the range, the dosage increase does not increase the primary action of the drug, only the secondary (side effects) actions. If that were the case, what would the OCD be responding to? Thanks as always
Re: SSRI doses and OCD versus othersI have no idea why OCD requires higher doses. Nor does anyone. I don't feel bad about this as Norman Geschwind once told me "Good medicine is more empiric than rational."
