Strange Dreams

Dr.,

Why do SSRIs and other antidepressants cause vivid and weird dreams for some people (I have noticed it happens to me when my dose increases, then usually goes back down after 2 weeks or so)? Thanks as always.

While the answer is unknown, the serotonergic system is involved in sleep and also hallucinations (i.e. Ecstacy and LSD have serotonergic effects). One imagines that serotonin is the important transmitter.
