Substance P?

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jun 27, 2002 5:29 pm

Dr.,

What is Substance P and is it still being considered as a viable new technology in antidepressants? I read that one major drug company was heavily researching it, but I thought I had read that the emphasis by that company had dropped.

Does this technology also have implications for anxiety disorders?

Thanks as always

Substance P is a neurotransmitter that is involved in pain pathwaths. Blockers of Substance P are under developement for use in depression and anxiety. The original data were exciting, but the first studies were not. It is up in the air as to whether or not it is effective and will come to market.
