Xanax is helping!!

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jul 15, 2002 8:29 pm

I have been taking .5 - 1mg of Xanax for anxiety mostly related to intrusive tinnitus that I developed a few months ago. We tried 2 SSRI's that responded very poorly to. My doc informed me that Xanax is not the best bet for long-term use, but it works so I am willing to deal with potential addiction.

3 weeks ago my doctor increased my dosage to .5mg 3 x per day. I feel so much better. The tinnitus bothers me less and my anxiety is much lower. I feel the best I have in years (other than the tinnitus that I wish was gone). My job performance is better because I don't get so stressed out at every little thing.

My question is:
Since I am doing so well at this dosage, is there a liklihood that I will need to continually increase my dosage?

Most people can stay at that dose for a long time. If your dose keeps creeping up, a longer acting benzodiazepine might be in order. I don't like to prescribe Xanax, but I have had many patients on it at the same dose, doing well for years.
