Insurance reclassifying ASP to PDD

Post a new topicby asdmom on Thu Jun 19, 2008 6:15 pm

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has encountered difficulties when their insurance coverage for their ASD child (young adult now) has been changed from a mental health status to a medical condition status. Our insurance company just notified us of this and we have been worried. Since he is an adult now, we are hoping the change won't affect the treatment of his mental health issues. I'm worried that his schitzo affective, depression anxiety disorder and adult ADHD (yep he's got them all) will be monitored by someone who is not a psychiatrist I believe they are trying to atribute all this to his ASD (which is probably true). He was not diagnosed with the ASD until he was 15 so he couldn't benifit from the physical and other therapies available now.
