Finding a new psych after moving

Post a new topicby sylv on Mon Nov 03, 2008 12:02 pm

I recently moved from El Paso to Houston Texas and have too many possible names for psychiatrists.
My grown children want to get me into psychotherapy which I have never done. I am bipolar I tending toward the manic side having my first episode at 27 and a repeat at age 44 at which time I went on Lithium Carbonate. I am on a barely maintenace dose of LiCo4 for the past 20 years. It works pretty well for me and I generally go to see my psych every 3 or 4 months. The times I have gone off of Lithium for any period of time, I become slightly manic and somewhat irritable and a little paranoid. The first time I went manic, I had shock treatments which I hated but recovered. I know that my mind doesn't work as well with Lithium Carbonate and I am somewhat slower, but some of how well my mind works is in the believing. I also would like a Christian psychiatrist I notice there are very few posts to this site so am wondering if there will be any response. Sylv
