Adverse reaction to anti depressants

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

I have been diagnosed as depressed GAD. My problem is everytime I try an anti depressant my anxiety level goes up cing me to stop taking it. Is anxiety a normal response to anti depressants? If so, does side effect usually diminish or dissappear over time. My psychiatrist inms me re lots of medications on market we just have to keep trying until we find right one is suitable my chemical makeup. Currently he has me on Divalproex Sodium to stabalize my moods (so I wont have such an adverse reaction to antidepressants). Do know of any anti depressants do not have anxiety or nervousnes as a side effect? I had no adverse side effects to Divalproex do not want to stay on it too long because of negative effects it can have on liver. Thanks r time.

It is not unusual to have an increase in anxiety before the decrease. It helps to use low doses and go up slowly. Serzone (nefazadone) seems to have less of this effect, but some people find it sedating. It sounds like your psychiatrist is doing a good job. There are a lot of agents and it may take a while. Good luck.
