cessation of smoking

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri May 10, 2002 3:16 am

Dear doc,
I read a letter regarding effect to cessation of smoking in this forum. I am myself going thru depression. I quit smoking some eight years ago. I do remember that some time later I was quite temperamental for awhile, but do not recall having had any other symptoms of depression. Now I have symptoms of depression. However, this time there has been a definite stressful event, which I believe has precipitated the present crisis. My question is do I need to consider cessation of smoking as a cause of my depression as there has been such a prolonged gap between cessation and onset? And does nicotine replacement means going back to smoking or is it given in some other form?

After eight years, there would be no effect of smoking cessation on mood. Nicotene replacement is not indicated at all.
