Crying Spells

Post a new topicby Guest on Sat May 11, 2002 10:46 pm

Dear Doc,

I am a 35-year-old female and have been seeing a psychiatrist for 27 months now for major depression I have been on Effexor successfully for over a year. I am slowly decreasing doses, but experiencing daily crying spells now. I understand that crying spells can simply be a result of stress. I have had no major life changes and no reason to cry--other than a stressful job. Are crying spells a sign that I am not in remission?

I will talk to my doctor next visit, but can't find much information about this in the meantime.

I have some people in my practice with similar presentation. They all cried easily before the medication. They cry easily after the medication, but with no real cause. Like you, I haven't been able to find much about this. I don't treat them with medication as they have no other real complaints. So far, they have not gone back into depression (a few years of follow up).
