Depression

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Mar 21, 2002 2:21 pm

I recently read an article in Prevention magazine about a mood disorder called the Body Blues. I was wondering if you have heard anything about it. I have searched several mental health sites and have found no info. Is it for real? Symptoms are:
1. Eating too much and gaining weight
2. Lack of energy
3. Irritability or tension
4. Difficulty concentrating
5. Sleep problems
6. Daytime drowsiness
7. Decreased interest in sex
8. Mild anxiety
9. Mild depression
10. Heightened sensitivity to rejection or criticism

The article suggests that if you have 3 or more of these symptoms then you may suffer from The Body Blues. Well I have several of those symptoms myself. Can you help me find more info on it...
Thanks

Never heard of it. It is "poppsych" and has no basis in research.

It is similar to a condition called "hysteroid dysphoria" which is a concept that was popular in the eighties. There was research showing this sort of spectrum responded to MAOI's and SSRI's. The term faded from usage with the advent of the DSM III.
