hi, im very concerned about someone who i love dearly and he is suffering from a chemical imbalance. i dont understand what it is entirely about, but have had a little insight on what it is. how can a person get over the blues and start being happy without medication? and how long do they stay on the medication? he broke up with me saying that he had problems not with our relationship, but personal like being sick (when not takings his medication) and having to take it all the time and making him dowersy. i was there for him but, i feel he doesnt want me around when he gets sick. what im i surpose to do/ i mean i still care for him.

truly yours,

The term chemical imbalance covers many diagnosis and situations. You can read on our site and others about Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia which are all due to chemical imbalances. You can go to nami.org and find out how other family member cope. Ultimately, use common sense and love. However, an individual makes choices in the world. His choice may include whether or not to be in treatment as well as whether or not to be with you.
