I guess Im depressed -- what next?

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Mar 26, 2002 10:40 pm

I've tried to go to Drs and the exeperience has not been good. How does one find a "good" doctor?

And I'm scared to death of drugs -- god all of the horror stories about side effects, etc. are so disturbing -- aren;t there any other alternatives to help me?

Psychotherapy can be useful, especially cognitive behavioral therapy. There is some evidence that SAM-E and St. John's Wort is helpful.

In terms of finding a doctor that matches your personality. It is hard. Asking your internist or others for suggestions is probably the most effective way. Sometimes access is limited by insurance and you have to go by who is in the plan. There are thousands of professionals out there, maybe hundreds in your area, you just have to find one of them that suits you. Good luck.
