Dear doctor,
I have had two episodes of depression spaced 8 years apart lasting 6 months and 8 months respectively. I am not sure if I should get married because if I have another attack i am sure I will not be able to take care of marital responsibility.

While no one but yourself can make this decision, I will say that I have seen people with similar histories have successful marriages. I would recommend honesty with your future partner in discussing your history and making a mutual decision.
