New to depression

Post a new topicby Guest on Sat Mar 02, 2002 12:06 pm

I have been diagnosed with major Depressive disorder. I am 38 years old, have three wonderful daughters ages 5, 5, and 11. I am a teacher. My husband has been out of work for almost a year, and I have been trying to keep this family together and running. I am now out of resourses, and got so bad, that i voluntarily placed myself in a partial day therapeutic program. I have been placed on Paxil and Atavan, then changed to Celexa and Atavan, and now they are trying Wellbutin and Klonopin. I can not stop worrying, I feel I am responsible to get this family going and I can not. I want things to improve and get my life back together. Now I am not getting paid either. When will the meds kick in? I am doing better since the program, but that ends this coming Monday. I am tired all the time, and feel lethargic. I need support...I need the meds to start working and for them to get the right combination. Any suggestions? I am also worried that this is for a lifetime? I am confused? Is it because of the situation I am in, or am I now clinically depressed?

Antidepressants usually take a month to start working. The average dose of Wellbutrin is 300 mg. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a form of talking therapy that is helpful. From what you say, you are going through a bad time, but you should get better.
