It is said that depression is a disease of modern stressful society. I think one should study some primitive population and find out the prevalence of depression over there. This way we may be able to find out the exact cause of depression

There are studies from a great deal of different cultures--from the Amish to the so called third world. I don't know of studies amonst the very primitive. We do know that evidence of depression is present throughout the earliest recorded history.
