Remeron for Panic

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Mar 13, 2002 7:02 pm

Dr.,

A family friend asked me about my medication for Panic Disorder and said that their Doctor recommended Remeron when they were having anxiety problems recently (they never tried it). I have never heard of Remeron being used for PD:

1. Is there any evidence that this medication is useful for Panic (other than the fact that it is an antidepressant)?

2. The only information I could find on Remeron was a comment from someone that it's safety was more questionable than SSRIs. Do you know what (if any) the concern is about the safety of this drug?

Thanks.

While not FDA approved, I have seen it used with some good effects. I no of now particular safety concerns. Weight gain (may be a fair amount of weight) and sedation limit its use.
