Why PTSD ?To All: For an old (retired) veteran who has been around, a comparison of the enemy
of WWII and the Iraq war may be helpful. Visual comparison may be one answer to help in PTSD. In WWII, the enemy was visual and distinct, that is, Nazi uniforms and structured lines of defense. In the Iraq War, the enemy is not directly visible but blends in with the population, "phantom enemy". There are no structured lines of defense but the enemy could be anyone around you. It would be helpful to the Vets, to visualize the enemy as one who wears the black hood and carries a weapon. Age and maturity also plays a role. The WWII vets were 21-22 yrs old when they entered the war. In the Korean war, they were 18-20 and had more PTSD The 3 years difference was a lot in maturity and ability to cope with the war.
