Post a new topicby livingwith on Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:56 pm

When I was schizophrenic, I did not imagine I was hearing voices, I actually heard audible voices. They (the voices)said that I deserved to die. Also when I was schizophrenic, I did not imagine I was seeing things, I actually saw very frightening images.
The medication I had to take was somewhat of a help, but in no means a cure. Is the medical community afraid to ask the right questions? Why are the medical professionals still living in the dark ages when it comes to so called mental illne...Read the full article

Rommel - There are many medications available for it, but almost all have side-effects. There is a section on this website itself that talks about medication and cause-effects that you may want to look at. It does say that this desease is seldom curable; if patient doesn't take medication, it reoccurs with 90% probability and if patient is taking medication, it has 30% chance of relapse. I don't know a permanent solution to it. The best solution that I know is to take medication (that has least side effects) & make your sister attend spiritual classes regularly (almost daily), so she keeps up with a positive attitude. Hope this helps!

Rommel - I checked and found that "Olanzapine" is the safe medicine to use for Schizophrenia, much better than the other medicine so far (as of Feb. 15, 2009). It has least side-effects: Drowsiness, Headache, Insomnia, Nasal congestion, Weight gain
These side effects may or may not happen. For example:- you might just gain weight by using "Olanzapine" and not headache.
Risperidone is not good for women as it does have some harmonal side-effects. So, on the safe side, overall "Olanzapine" is better.
Hope this helps!

Additionally:
What is more important for him/her is to keep a positive attitude and away from anything that gives depression as much as possible. That means - you should take him/her regularly to classes where people talk about positive things such as spiritual classes or enchantings etc. Evening spiritual classes seem to be more effective than the morning ones as it is during the evening that he may feel bored and may get into bad mood or stress.
